Question:
this one would like to know where on the left leg the brand
goes. thank you
kyna: well, after some research
and many questions asked to Masters and slaves kyna knows, this
one has found some interesting information about brands. first
and foremost, the brand may be on either thigh of the girl. it is
commonly on the left thigh, as the majority of Masters are right
handed, thus the Master can find it and caress it, if He wishes
to do so, but a girl may also be marked on her right thigh.
-
- "I see
you like a left-thigh-branded girl," said
Hassan."
- page 337
Tribesmen of Gor
the common place of the brand is
on the middle of the upper thigh on the outside below the
hip(although it may also be on the inside). kyna was told it was
placed there for reasons of concealment, if such was wished by a
Master. it may also be placed (ouch) on a girl's belly, the side
of her neck and also, even on the left heel. in the following
references, it seems the brand is on the outside.
- "La
Kajira," said Eta, indicating herself. She drew up
the brief garment she wore, turning to me, exposing her
left thigh."

Girl of Gor
- "I stood
before the table, naked. "Thigh," he said. I
turned sideways, so that he might see my left thigh.
"Common Kajira mark," he said, and made an
entry on a sheet."

Kajira of Gor
there are also many different
kinds of brands. the most common being the 'kef' or the cursive K
standing for kajira and the dina, a flower-like brand resembling
an earth rose.
- "Her
brand, however, was not precisely the same as mine. It
was more slender, more vertical, more like a stem with
floral, cursive loops, about an inch and half in height,
and a half inch in width; it was, I would later learn,
the initial letter in cursive script of the Gorean
expression 'Karjia'; my own brand was the 'dina'; the
dina is a small, lovely, mutiply petaled flower,
short-stemmed, and blooming in the a turf of green
leaves, usually on the slopes of hills, in the northern
temperate zones of Gor; in its budding, though in few
other ways, it resembles a rose"

Girl of Gor
there are also references to the
brand of the four bosk horns, the taharic slave mark, and also
the brand of Treve.
- "With a
heavy glove, Hassan pulled an iron from the brazier.
"What do you think of this brand?" he asked. It
was the Taharic slave mark. "It is beautiful,"
I said. "But let us assure ourselves that this will
be a common slave, one fit to sell north." "A
good idea," said Hassan. He returned the one iron to
the brazier and reached for another. It glowed red. It
was a fine iron, clean and precise. At it's tip, bright
red, was the common Kajira slave mark of Gor. "
- page 337,
Tribesmen of Gor
- "May I
see your brand?" I asked. I was curious. "Of
course," said Ena, and she stood up and, extending
her left leg, drew her long, lovely white garment to her
hip, revealing her limb. I gasped. Incised deeply,
precisely, in that slim, lovely, now-bared thigh was a
startling mark, beautiful, insolent, dramatically marking
that beautiful thigh as that which it now could only be,
that of a female slave. "It is beautiful," I
whispered. " "Can you read?" she asked.
"No," I said. She regarded the brand. "It
is the first letter, in crusive script," she said,
"of the name of the city of Treve."

Captive of Gor
there are also the elusive Priest
King and Kurii Brand (found in Beasts of Gor, but kyna could not
find the references, if you know of them, please email :)), as
well as the penalty brands. penaltry brands were normally small
letters about a quarter of an inch high. there were penalty
brands for lying, stealing and also to mark on as a traitress,
among other things. elinor was branded with penalty brands in
Captive of Gor.
- "Sometimes,
too" she said, "a girl may be branded as
punishment, and to warn others against her." I
looked at her, puzzled. "Penalty brands," she
said. "They are tiny, but clearly visible. There are
various such brands. There is one for lying and another
for stealing."
- page 277
Captive of Gor
there is even reference to
'collectors' who buy girls solely for the brand she bears.
"There are, of course, men
who buy for brands. To meet this market various brands are
developed and utilized."
kyna found some interesting quotes
having to do with branding.
- "Yet the
most profound consequences of the brand seem to be less
social than intensely individual, personal and
psychological; the brand, almost instantaneously,
transforms the deepest consciousness of a girl; I
resolved to fight these feelings, to keep my personhood,
even wearing a brand. I lay confined in bonds. I could
scarcely move. But I suspected, and truly, the mightiest
bond I wore was not the strict, confining loops on my
wrists or belly but the newly incised brand on my body;
later, I suspected, even if coils of rope and heavy
chains might be heaped upon me, or I should be confined
in cells or kennels, the most complete and inescapbable
shackle placed upon me would nonetheless be always that
delicate, feminine design, that small, loevely flower,
resembling a rose, burned into the flesh of my upper left
thigh."
- page 60,
Slave Girl of Gor
- "The
brand was on Gor legal, institutional status; that which
it marks it makes an object; its victim has not rights,
or appeal, within the law."
- page 60,
Slave Girl of Gor (quote given by Master _Marcus_ )
- "The
brand is to be distinguished from the collar, though both
are a designation of slavery. The primary significance of
the collar is that it identifies the master and his city.
The collar of a given girl may be changed countless
times, but the brand continues throughout to bespeak her
status. The brand is normally concealed by the briefly
skirted slave livery of Gor but, of course, when the
camisk is worn, it is always clearly visible, reminding
the girl and others of her station."
- page 187,
Outlaw of Gor
- "Most
simply the brand is supposed to convince the girl that
she is truly owned; it is supposed to make her feel
owned. When the iron is pulled away and she knows the
pain and degradation and smells the odour of her burned
flesh, she is supposed to tell herself, understanding its
full and terrible import, I AM HIS."

*note* kyna wishes to thank Master
_Marcus_ specifically for His help in kyna's research of 'brands
and branding' and for the quotes He gave.....this slave thanks
you Master :)!

- ~*~Pot
Bosk Roast...or just plain old pot roast~*~
- if you have a real meat and
potatoes kind of Master, He'll love this recipe and it's
easy so you'll like it also :) this is one of kyna's
favorite winter recipes.
- ingredients:
- 1 good size beef roast,
it can be chuck, rump or whatever you wish, the only
type kyna does not suggest is rack roast.
- 1 packet of lipton's dry
onion soup mix (comes in a box)
- 1 can of cream of
mushroom soup, if you are trying to cut down on fat
and calories you can use reduced fat soup :)
- 1 small can of tomato
sauce (the baby size, and if you are worried about
sodium, you can get 'no salt added' tomato sauce)
- 6-10 potatoes depending
on the size of the roast, or if you just really like
taters! peeled and cut into quarters
- 5 or 6 carrots, grated
and cut into peices
- a pinch of salt and
pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon of cooking oil
- you will need a large pot
with a lid, a dutch oven work nicely. heat the oil over a
low heat(stovetop) in the pot, then brown the roast on
all sides. once it it browned, cover it with water, add
the onion soup mix, the cream of mushroom soup as well as
the salt and pepper. let the roast cook covered on low
heat, checking to make sure that you do not need more
water for about two hours(longer depending on the size),
when it starts to become a bit tender, then add your
carrots and potatoes along with the tomatoe sauce, cook
until you it falls apart at the fork for the best tastin'
roast since grandma's. it is a meal in a pot that sticks
to your ribs.

- "It can
be a capital offense on Gor, incidentally, for a slave to
so much as touch a weapon."
