A letter to the Times...

To the editor and everyone else involved with the tabloid ‘Gorean Daily Times:

This girl is so saddened by the trash she sees in this "paper". If it weren’t enough that the editor and others from this paper decide to give unwanted advice to the rest of us Goreans, they have also taken it upon themselves to go out and seek to be trouble-makers in the homes of others. It is really unfortunate for all us Goreans that someone who claims to be one of us can spend his time hiding in dark shadows, for the sake of digging up trash for a tabloid…very sad indeed.

It would seem that the writer of this letter speaks on behalf of "all" of you who are not of "The Times". I find it very hard to believe that the online Gorean community has actually agreed enough with each other to band together, and choose a spokesperson to write a letter to the Times. Setting that aside, I have to wonder how we (the Times) are "advising" anyone to do anything. The writer obviously does not understand that what "we" do here is present opinions. Whether or not these opinions are wanted, is of course, left up to the readers. If readers do not wish to see "opinions", then I would think they would simply not visit, eh? Having a site that gets 450-600 hits a week I would have to assume that "some" of you out there have an interest in such opinions. As for taking it upon ourselves to go out and seek trouble in the homes of others, I have to guess that the writer is referring to ol' Excursus! Well... he is an asshole anyway, and what a simple slave has to say about him, I am sure means nothing. For the record though, Excursus, as you all know, does travel incognito. How does one conduct a channel review if the channel's occupants know they are being reviewed? I would point out to the writer that he HAS had some favorable reviews, but, as should be expected with the glut of Gorean play channels so common on the net, those positive reviews are few and far between. As for "claiming to be one of you"... I assure you, whoever you are, the we do NOT claim to be "one of you". You see, there are a few of us who have actually absorbed the meaning of those books written by Norman, and apply it as best we can to our everyday lives. Nothing more, nor less. It is YOU who claims to be one of us. Do us all a favor, (the 5% of the men and women here who actually have a clue as to what it means to embrace Gorean beliefs) and stick to your playGor channels, if they suit your needs and whims. I find it amusing that the term "digging up trash" is used here, for in truth, that is all Excursus found. Speaking of "hiding in shadows"... the writer of this letter is hiding behind a Hotmail e-mail account, and I would not be at all surprised if the account was specifically opened for the express purpose of bagging on the Times, and the freemen who give their time and effort to present it to you. Opinions of slaves are asked for, and a real slave will always remember this. You will notice as you read further that the words contained in this letter would not be considered very "slavelike"...

This girl enjoys her time in the most populated channel on austnet, the #BlackTarnKeep. She sees within its walls, a group of dedicated, talented, beautiful slaves, and a group of strong, educated, wonderful Masters (who also do things with their lives beyond IRC). They come to BlackTarnKeep for the enjoyment of their comrades and that of their slaves. They live in the real world, unlike those of other places on other nets, where the ops spend much of their time burping and flatulating, and being just generally disgusting. The BlackTarnKeep was invaded by some nameless, faceless person masquerading as a critic in the December 25 edition of the above said tabloid. He came in as no one, and left as no one. He only spied on the channel to find something mean and hateful to say about it. The spirit of the Keep was high that night, being just days before Christmas. The Masters of the channel say that they don’t care what anyone thinks of BlackTarnKeep. We have the ‘REAL’ Gor right inside our home, and if some nameless invader didn’t see it, that is his problem. If some Goreans have a problem with snowballs at Christmas time, they should possibly seek help on their grasp of reality. The invader was not invited to the party anyway.

Correction: #BlackTarnKeep is NOT the most populated channel on Austnet. For the record, I believe the channel #funfactory is the most populated channel on Austnet. However, considering my one brief visit to the place many weeks ago, I would venture to say that the two channels are very much alike in content, as they both allow women to do as they wish. (I was kicked because I "Looked at a slave(?)" after she "looked at me" in response to my equating the ownership of a woman in my collar with the ownership of a toaster, and failed to "thank her" for congratulating me on my aquisition) We of the Times also do things with our lives "other than IRC", and it is only an idiot that would assume that we do not do such. We also live in the real world, among real people, working at real jobs. The insinuation that the people of "those other places" do not do so, is idotic. Once again, the writer of the letter speaks of an "invader masquerading as a critic... bla bla bla whine whine whine bad review etc. etc. I wonder how the writer would have responded to a favorable review... Next time, Excursus.. get an invitation you asshole!

Well, this girl is sad because what she sees from some self proclaimed experts on Gor, is their lack of anything better to do within the empty and hollow walls of their taverns. They leave their solace and go out to hurt others. Very, very sad. She would also like to remind the editor of this trash that even Siskel and Ebert show their faces….and yet the content of the movie remains unchanged. Not only does the editor of this paper and his slave have a habit of deciding what is Gor for everyone else, they also run a generally empty tavern., proclaiming that they don’t care how many people come. This slave knows better. She also sees that the ‘original’ Gorean tavern on Dalnet seems to be awfully occupied with telling us all that we have hurt Gor by leaving their channel. Interesting, since MOST of Gor has left that tavern. Gor must not be THE Gor that they think it is.

We do not claim to be "self proclaimed experts on Gor". I guess that those many people who actually come, and ask for advice on matters have decided that. *shrugs* I must say that those real people within our small community well know that we do not "go out and seek to hurt others". But, if one does not bother to spend the time among us, because she thinks we are "too harsh", then how are they to know that we are not really sadistic? Thanks for the reminder about Siskel and Ebert. As a reminder to YOU, think just a little bit, and realize that people will change if they know they are being reviewed. Now I am a bit confused... "the editor of this paper and his slave have a habit of deciding what is Gor for everyone else". I have no idea why the reference is made to my slave, and I do indeed have my opinions on what "Gor" is, and should be, but, how is that "deciding" what Gor is for everyone else? "They" do not run a tavern. "I" used to run a tavern. Again, we see a subbie's mindset here... she assumes that because I have a slave, that my slave owns what I own. Well... get a grip subbie... my slave does not have anything here that I do not allow her to have. How would YOU know that "we" do care if the channel is "generally empty"? If you are watching so closely, then you would see that we spend very little time there, and do not promote it. Coming to the "original Gorean tavern", and the statement that "we have hurt Gor by leaving their channel", I think it important that the poor confused writer understands that the S&S on Dalnet, simply does not tolerate typical subbie behaviour and weak minded men. Nor will they ever. What you do to "hurt Gor" by not being able to cope there, is to start your own playGor channels and teach newcomers what Gor, and the Gorean philosophy is NOT about. As for "most of Gor leaving the tavern", I think in all actuality, most of Gor has been removed from the tavern, because most of Gor simply does not have the guts to deal with it. The writer assumes the liberal stance of "majority rules" here. For the record, the majority may rule, but the majority is hardly always right.

This girl writes as a farewell to the Gorean Daily Times, knowing in her heart that those who are involved in it will not care that she goes. She knows that they have a large following, mostly by those like she has been, nosey as to what is going on in other places on Gor. She just has to say goodbye, her heart heavy with the knowledge that her words will fall on deaf ears. Her eyes will never again look upon the garbage of this tabloid, it is too heartbreaking.

Indeed, we do not care. Goodbye. (I bet she continues to add a hit to the counter at each publication) Poor heartbroken girl :(

This girl is also saddened that the most respected and admired Goreans , the ones whose names we hear most often anyway, have absolutely no experience whatsoever with having a slave kneel before them, or to kneel before a Master. This girl wishes that if the people of this paper feel it is their place to give unwanted advice, they would at least have one single experience to back it up.

What does this writer know of our lives? And since when does embracing the Gorean philosophy in ones life require a resume?

This girl will not say her name in the knowledge that she will be harassed endlessly, which is also unfortunate. She does hope that those dedicated, wonderful Goreans that work so hard at living their Gor in their own very real way, have a very wonderful New Year.

No shit you will not say your name... it would be a great embarrassment to your master, and he would probably beat you for writing this lette. Then again, he probably wouldn't beat you, because you might "leave him".

……a slave

I think not "a slave". But, considering we freemen are allowed to voice our opinions as we wish, I have voiced mine.

     I wish you well, Goreans
