- "Questions
& Answers"
- Do you have questions
that you might be seeking an answer to?
Well this is the place to come and ask! Yes
slave girls of Gor, we are going to try to answer
all of the grand and wonderful
questions, that "we" as
gorean slaves ask daily. meara and kyna are
here to help or at least try that is and we hope
you will be teaching us as well! We want
this not to be an opinion column, but a forum for
fact and fiction. The topic can be of
anything you wish, from which spoon to use when
stirring a Master's blackwine, to.. do we have a
recipe for Gorean Chocolate Chip Cookies?
All questions will be answered within the rule
limitation. (yup rules!)
- No
personal bashing is allowed here, if you're
having problems with another slave or person
please go ask them not us.
- No
names via Masters/Mistresses/slaves....will be
mentioned in the answers.
- All
questions must be email to [email protected]
by Saturday Night.
"This
week's questions"
nairi was surprised to find that
no slaves of Gor had any questions this week. Perhaps it was the
recent bustle of the holidays which made it difficult for some to
find the time to put words to those mental questions. nairi
doesn't know. So nairi, an inquisitive slave, decided to put some
of her own questions to words.
Question
1: One of the questions which crosses nairi's mind
with regularity is "what are the responsibilities of a
slavegirl?"
At first glance, this question may
seem overly simplistic, with the rote answer of course being
"to please the Masters and to obey." But is that all
that a slave must do? Does she have responsibilities to herself
as well, and to other slaves?
The more thought nairi gave to
these questions, the more complex the answers became. nairi will
attempt to explain the conclusions at which she arrived.
To answer the question "is
pleasing a Master and obeying all a slave must do", the
answer is a highly stressed NO! She must, in fact, do quite a bit
more. First of all, she needs to remember that there are others
in this fictitious Gorean world beside herself or her Master;
therefore the feelings of others should be taken into account in
all her words and actions. As has been repeated many times in
particular, the medium of irc is not Gor, nor do any of the
frequent visitors to the irc channels actually claim citizenship
of some far away place called Gor. Simply stated, this is Earth.
As members of a society, and allowing for the laws, even slaves
are expected to exhibit behaviors which are socially acceptable,
or at least tolerated. True, there are many things a person can
do within the confines of one's own home at which the rest of the
world may gasp in horror. But, in general, when dealing with the
public even a slave will be expected to adhere to social customs
and awareness.
nairi refers of course to such
things as common courtesies, treating others as one would have
herself treated, not being intentionally cruel, and in general
conducting oneself in a manner befitting a civilized human being.
To illustrate, as barbaric as life on Gor could be at times,
there were still penalties for lying and stealing. In other
words, freepersons and slaves alike could be held accountable for
their actions toward others. So the conclusion nairi reached was
that indeed a slave has responsibilities beyond those of pleasing
a Master. She is accountable for her personal actions regardless
of their source. This seems to be a double answer; the slave must
be responsible to herself in that she follows what is expected
and at the same time also touches on how she must act responsibly
toward others.
How easy it is to sit behind a
computer screen; an anonymous person. One can lie and perhaps
even get away with it for a time. One can 'cheat' by exaggerating
realities of one's life. Technically, one can even 'steal' via
modem the contents of another's computer. (nairi blushes as she
counts all the wav and jpg/gif files she has 'stolen' from other
computers.) And all can be accomplished without ever making one's
true identity known.
But something interesting happens
when a person spends an extended amount of time with the same
online crowd. Slowly, information begins to trickle forth about
the people on the other sides of the screens; those before now
anonymous persons. People begin to notice things when going to a
favorite channel. The absence of someone who has been a regular
may be noted mentally. Or after conversing with someone for weeks
on end their moods can be easily detected by the shortness or
curtness of a line of text sent to the channel window. Perhaps
someone has a real life mishap occur, venting the frustration to
the others in the channel. Or a channel regular, long without a
job, suddenly is able to announce that the job of a lifetime has
been landed. Hence the people who were once nameless, faceless
creatures begin to take on personalities. Feelings of like,
dislike, concern, joy, happiness, sadness and elation are felt by
those behind the screens at the other end of the connection. In
other words, those who were once anonymous have now taken a more
human form, capable of eliciting emotions from someone typing and
reading many miles away, or just around the corner.
It is heard repeatedly that Gor is
not a game; real people can get hurt. All too often these words
are again proven true. Although there is no real way a person can
be held responsible for actions on irc, it seems that if each
slave would keep in mind to treat another with no less regard
than she herself would desire to be treated that everyone would
have a much better time.
The internet is something which
can provide entertainment and the furthering of knowledge, to
list but a couple of its uses. As slaves, all should remind
themselves each time they sit down to log on that there are real
humans with whom the interaction takes place. Perhaps some only
view the internet as a 'bunch of computers talking to each
other'. But as nairi has had to remind herself many times while
trying to explain to a real person at a credit card company how
the computer is mistaken about her overdue payment for example, a
computer is merely a box incapable of doing anything without a
real person to make it 'go'. Please be kind to one another. nairi
challenges all slaves to resolve to take responsibility for their
actions toward each other and toward themselves. After all,
should not a slave be the epitome of perfect behavior, whether
online or off?
nairi wishes all
well.
kyna wishes to add to this
beautifully written piece by nairi only this; we are all here, at
times, sitting behind our computers, fingers touching the
keyboards, deciding what it is we will type. do you think before
you type that next sentence and hit enter? who's life are you
affecting on the other side? and in the end, when people are left
bewildered, hurt and perhaps even physically sick because of
betrayed trusts, who is accountable for your actions? remember
that each of us must lie down to sleep at night with our own
thoughts.
kyna wishes you all
well

"quotes!" said the
slaves, "quotes please!."
Lying...cheating...stealing..no
good, dirty rotten scoundrels...
- I saw Rask,
with a heavy glove, draw forth one of the irons from the
fire. It terminated in a tiny letter, not more than a
quarter of an inch high. The letter was white hot.
"This is a penalty brand," he said. "It
marks you as a liar." "Please, Master!" I
wept. "I no longer have patience with you," he
said. "Be marked as what you are."
- page 310,

- "Where
you come from," she said, "do slaves not
address free women as 'Mistress'?" "I am a free
woman, too," I said. "I am not a slave."
"Naked, lying slave!" hissed the woman. "I
beg you for kindness," I said. "Even if I were
a slave, which I am not, we share the same sex. We are
both women." "I am a woman," she said.
"You are an animal."

- "What is
the fate of a slave girl who lies?" he asked me.
"Whatever the master wishes," I whispered.
"What would you do if one of your slaves lied?"
he asked. "I-I would beat her," I said.
"Excellent," he said.
- page 262,
Captive of Gor
- "Is it
your intention to lie and steal in this camp?" she
asked. I shook my head fiercely, negatively. The men
laughed. "If you do," she said, "you will
be punished, and promptly, and your punishment will not
be pleasant." "You will be beaten," said
one of the girls nearby, her eyes wide, "and put in
the slave box!"

- Once more the
handle moved and the pawl slipped into a new notch on the
ratchet. Her body, now, was lifted from the network of
knotted ropes and hung, suspended, between the two axles
of the rack. "Masters!" she cried.
"Masters! I have told the truth! The truth!"
The pawl was moved yet another notch. The girl, now hurt,
screamed. "Have you told the truth, pretty
Zaya?" inquired Ibn Saran. "Yes, yes yes, yes,
yes!" she wept.
- page 112,
Tribesmen of Gor
- "Why do
you, slaves, tell the truth?" he asked. "We are
slaves," she said. "We fear to lie."
- page 114,

- The captain
then again turned his attention toward me. He was angry.
He spoke softly, but menacingly. "You have made a
fool of all of us," he said. "Thus, I hope that
you are free."

- later, same

- "It is
as I thought," said the captain. He stepped back,
but he did not sheath his sword. "I will give you
twenty Ihn," said he, "to remove the clothing
of a free woman and fall naked on your belly before
me."
- page 124-125,
Slave Girl of Gor
- "You
know thepenalties for lying?" he asked. "I do
not lie, Master," she said, "I do love
you." One of the penalties which may in a peasant
village be inflicted upon a lying slave girl is to throw
her alive to hungry sleen.
- page 242,

- "There
are many who know of your treachery," I said.
"Doubtless some will be captured, or fall into the
hands of agents of Priest-Kings. Soon your life will be
worth little among the agents of Priest-Kings." I
thought of Samos. He was not a patient man. She lifted
her eyes to me. "I could be tortured and
impaled," she said. "You are a slave
girl," I told her. "No such honorable death
would be yours. You would be given one of the deaths of a
slave girl, who has not been pleasing. In Port Kar,
doubtless, you would be given the Garbage death-bound
naked and hurled to the urts in the canals."

Feelings...ohhh
ohhh ohhhh ohhhhh...feelings...
- "Masters
do not respect their slaves, do they?" she asked.
"Of course not," I said. "But might they
not, sometimes, feel other emotions toward them?"
she asked. Her voice was very soft, and frightened. I
gathered she feared she might be struck. "Yes,"
I said. "What emotions? she asked, timidly,
beggingly. "Irritation," I said, "desire,
lust."
- page 161,

- "If I
want her." said Miles of Vonda, lightly. "There
are doubtless numerous others captive below who are quite
as beautiful." "Doubtless," I granted him,
"but, yet, she is quite lovely."
"Yes," he said, looking upon her, "she
is." I smiled to myself. Did Miles of Vonda seek to
conceal from me his affection for a mere slave? It was
obvious that he cherished that slave. I had little doubt
but what he would die for her.
- page 102,
Guardsman of Gor
- "You
see, my Master," she said, "you are, for me, a
dream come true." "And you, for me, Sweet
Slave," I said, "are, too, a dream come
true."
- page 303
Guardsman of Gor
- "Do some
men care for their slaves," I asked, "just a
little?" "Some men care for them much more than
a little," he said. "Even natural slaves?"
I asked. "those are the best sort," he said.
- page 436,
Kajira of Gor
- He took me by
the hair and thrust my head down to the furs. "A man
can truly love only that woman," he said, "who
is truly his, who belongs to him. Otherwise he is only a
part to a contract." "A woman," I said,
"can love only that man to whom she truly
belongs." "To whom do you truly belong,
Slave?" he asked. "To you, Master," I
said. "You please me, Slave Girl," he said.

so how do
we carry that money...or Masters whip?.....
- "The
girl did not now, of course, carry a purse. Slave girls
are not permitted to carry such things. When shopping she
carries the coins usually in her mouth or hand. Sometimes
she ties them in a scarf about her wrist or ankle.
Sometimes her master places them in a bag, which is then
tied about her neck. Gorean garments, generally,
incidentally, except for the garments of craftsmen, do
not have pockets. Coins, and personal items, and such,
are usually, by free persons, carried in pouches, which
are usually concealed within the robes of a free woman,
or slung about the waist, or shoulder, of a free
man."

and about
touching a whip....
- She looked
up, and I held the whip before her. Eagerly, crying, she
took it in her hands and kissed it, fervently.
- page 64,

- I thrust the
whip again to her mouth and, tenderly, softly, holding it
to her lips, she covered it with kisses.
