As a special treat, sasha{BEAR} has graciously agreed to be a guest columnist this week. The following is a log from a long ago question and answer session in which sasha{Bear} was a guest speaker before a BDSM group. She talks about Gor, the Gorean philosophy and living the Gorean lifestyle. Keep in mind that it was intended for those unfamiliar with Gor, so the newer girls may find this particularly informative. nairi and the slaves of Ask the Slaves give a special thanks to sasha for agreeing to do this and to her owner, Master Bear, for allowing her to share her knowledge with the rest of us.
sasha does not pretend to be a great scholar of the Gorean community or lifestyle. While a girl have lived the life of a submissive for a few years, she has lived the Gorean life-style for only part of that. It is sasha's hope that by sharing her feelings and perceptions, it will give those that are interested an insight into the world of Gorean slavery and submission. Gor is not for everyone, but many thrive here as sasha does. :)
To be Gorean does not mean we role play or are into science fiction things.... It just happens to be the place that is the background, a framework. Gor is based on a philosophy of honor among men. An intrisic part of Norman's philosophy is based on the belief that women are by nature submissive and crave the dominance of a strong male. In the books there is much discussion of the nature of women, the natural laws in operation, and the natural rights and relations between the sexes. Gor is not politically correct :) Here slavery is the norm and a Master's ownership of a girl is complete and unquestioned.
The dominance and ownership of a Gorean Master is total. There is no negotiation or safe word. This girl is owned and property of Master Bear-. It is not much different than a parcel of land, or prized kitten :) A girl's life is to please and serve her Master in whatever way suits him. It is like breathing after awhile. It just *is*.
A girl's Master and his needs and pleasures take precidence over anything else. While the emphasis by Norman is on a slave's sexuality and female traits... the reality is that the relationship goes much further. A Master's ownership of his girl includes her body, her thoughts, her feelings. Her essence.
At the same time, remember.... a girl has value to a Master. She is his, and he enjoys her at her best. A Gorean Master will take care with his girl's training and well being. It is good to be protected, nurtured and know your place :) This girl has probably spoken longer that she should :) Questions and discussion are much more fun. Query: Is this a 24/7 lifestyle? sasha{Bear} That is an excellent question. With Gor...as anyplace..... there are those that are quite serious and sincere...committed. We have those and they are often 24/7. How can a girl be owned at that level for 10/7? 2/7? Also, there are those new to the lifestyle and exploring....and so they make their own parameters sasha is sure. It is not a game we play. It is very real. This girl's Master is first in her mind with every breath. He owns sasha. Other Master's own their girls just as surely.
Query: What is training like with a Gorean Master? sasha{Bear} well.....the training is as different as there are Masters, a girl would suppose. In this girl's experience.....the training has often been so subtle that she does not realize she is learning until the lesson is internal :) Perhaps it is true to say that discipline is swifter and more sure on Gor.
Query: Yes...if it is 24/7 does a Gorean slave work outside the home? and..if so what would a slave be able to function if her Master controls all of her? sasha{Bear} Many slaves work outside the home. sasha wonders what their employers might think if they knew their accounts executive was a slave rl. sasha{Bear} grins. You have the same misunderstandings sasha did. This girl struggled with trying to give up control..at the "function" level. To be kajira is not to be a robot. A girl that has a brain, and uses it..... it is prized. She has far more value. The submission is in the relationship.
Query: Could you ask please about the so called brutality to the slaves that I have heard about? sasha{Bear} is sure there are many rumors of such. Masters differ... slaves differ...Gor is harsh. A girl might be beaten for many things....often just to seal a lesson. But most Masters are not abussive. They want to train the girl, not damage her. Again....she is property. Why harm her when she can be taught to grow? As in any group.....there are some that pretend to be Masters and are not. Also...brutality.....perhaps it is often a story that escalates.... as it flies around the net. Punishment and discipline are swift and sure and not pleasant. That is one of the things different from vanilla bdsm A punishment is not for play. A girl IS punished when it is needed. A girl learns to be content and happy by pleasing her Master........ not the pain of a crop.
Query: Why the need for the fantasy of sci/fi novels...why not just become a slave? sasha{Bear} Well...there is no "need" for sci-fi novels really. It is just the background that Master Norman chose to showcase his philosophy. It is a framework..... On earth.....there are some concessions to society. But i think they are few overall. And, this girl has yet to find a good recipie for paga. sasha grins.
Query: If a Master owns the mind..how can one keep from being a robot? sasha{Bear} That is difficult to explain.....He owns my mind...... and my thoughts... Often this girl might have emotions or such that are difficult...but sasha am held accountable for facing them and dealing with them in a pleasing way. If a girl is jealous say...she cannot just tough it out. She must tell him. Complete openness.....that sort of mind ownership. sasha has a mind. Master still expects her to use it. :) What fun is it to own a girl with no brain to share?
Query: If D/s is vanilla BDSM, is Gor fantasy BDSM? sasha{Bear} LOL
Query: Does being Gorean mean that an uncollared sub is the property of anyone in the tavern? does she have a choice as to whether or not the sub will serve a particular person? sasha{Bear} well...this girl can only speak of her Master's tavern. An uncollared girl is not owned....and she is not owned by the tavern. BUT....she does come under protection of the tavern while she is there. A girl is expected to serve in the tavern...collared or uncollared. This means serving food and drink....the occassional back rub :) Anything else must be consentual. If it is is not....and a Master forgets himself...a girl must whisper to the ops. Now....after she is collared....she must answer to her Master and his whims :)
Query: What is the sex like? <sashaBear> well.... a girl can only speak personally.... but a Gorean Master is also Master of a girl in the furs so to speak. It is a different sort of thing...the most intense of my experience.In the books...much is said of "slave heat" and "slave orgasm".
Query: What is the difference between vanilla bdsm and gorian bdsm? sasah{Bear} Vanilla bdsm is just a phrase.....like most phrases it means little. It is just an expression to differentiate "regular" bdsm (whatever that is) from Gorean tradition. They are two unrelated things. Comment: but again..is Gor not fantasy BDSM? sasha{Bear} In sasha's experience, Gorean tradition takes what was a very intense experience for her to an incredibly deeper level.
Comment: It is of course true of all BDSM experiences that you take what you want to from it. OTOH, there are certain things expected before others in the Gorean community will accept you as part of their ranks...the primary difference in my mind is the importance of honor for free people, and the understanding on the part of the slave that he or she is owned....property.
Query: What about intellect does she close off her mind totally or can her opinions differ from her Master? The question isn't whether the thoughts are your own..but rather that you have NO free will to ACT upon them...and no real VALOROUS opinion in how those thoughts affect you OR your Master.... sasha{Bear} Master, this girl acts upon her thoughts all the time. Sometimes she makes correct decisions.... and sometimes not. But, sasha answers to her Master for her actions. sasha{Bear} is learning to be pleasing to him. Comment: acting upon thoughts which predilect a desire that is of your OWN or that of your Masters ? sasha{bear} smiles.......this girl lives to please her Master. So, she desires to please and serve him, Master. They are not mutually exclussive. sasha{Bear} thinks she has misdirected you somewhere.
Again, sasha is but a simple slavegirl and she hopes her thoughts have helped some in their journey, or sparked more exploration and thinking. A girl closes by sharing a quote that nairi shared with her...from sasha's favorite Gor novel, Dancer of Gor .... Be well :)
